Immanuel Church, Jaffa

     Program for Easter 2008

The center window in the Church describes the significance of the cross with Jewish symbols: God acts in love towards the world. His love turns into a drop of blood, the blood of the Messiah, as he gives his life for his people—and indeed for the whole world. The crown of thorns is shaped as a star of David to indicate his identity as the Messiah, the Son of David.

(Isaiah 53; John 3:16)

Text Box: We cordially invite you to join our special program for Passover/ Easter 2008. The details you find below.
At Easter the Church celebrates the redemption fulfilled by Jesus in Jerusalem. The New Testament interprets his passion, death and resurrection in the light of Isaiah 53. Jesus is seen as the Messiah, who came to “take away the sins of many” and thereby bring about the long awaited “exodus” of the New Covenant as promised by the prophets (Jeremiah 31:31-34).
The Christian Easter, “Pascha”, is in other words a direct continuation of the Jewish “Pæsach”. In our celebration of the Holy Week, we try to underline this connection.
